Minutes of 01/29/2009

1. Attended 01/29/2009 : Frank Rickey, Mark Sorhdal, Olga Strickland, Donna Hancock, Pat Schwind, Rich Woods, Geri Seckinger, Les Landon, Donna Gilbrecht, Mary Lou Benigno, Dick Wintermantel, Chris Braughton, Tom Costanzo, Keith McKinney, & our speakers Steve Alonge, Anita Leafty, Michael Tarrant and Thala Taperman Rolnick, CPA.

2. Before I comment on the meeting, I must first apologize to my good friend Michael Tarrant, CEO of Kingman Winslow, LLC; I've known Mike a # of years, but mistakenly labeled him "Michael Deaton", simply because I talk to his lovely wife Sherri Deaton, daily, in her capacity as office manager at my firm. And I get hit in the head, now & then. Anyway, our topic was the Economy & How to Protect Your Assets & Future. Our panel of "Financial Pros" each had ~ 5 minutes to talk about our current situation, & then mention some ideas &/or products & programs to help in these dangerous & depressing times, especially here in Az. The advice given was not meant to be comprehensive or definitive; I just asked a bunch of my friends in the financial services industry to come in & tell us something of value. These 4 friends 'stepped up to the plate'. After each speaker had their 5 minutes, we threw it open for 'Q & A'. I'm not going to get into any details about any of the ideas or advice presented, we simply don't have the space on a 1 page flyer. We briefly discussed various aspects of taxation, regulation, the 'bailouts', financial instruments & strategies, etc. However, the real beauty of the S/E, is the (somewhat heated) discussion that often arises as we pursue various tangents & related topics of interest. Perhaps the most controversial topics were taxation, which most of my libertarian friends feel is simply "outright theft", & what fiscal policy should the new Obama administration follow, to minimize the damage of the "Bush Depression". As usual, the opinions were pretty much 'all over the map', which is why so many folks keep comin' back; it's a lot more fun to hear a bunch of widely conflicting comments, than just rehash the same old stuff, or surround yourself with folks who tell you what you already know, or what they think you want to hear. That's not the S/E. WE HAVE FUN!!

   • 5/21- DEBATE: Do Gay & Lesbian Folks "Choose" to be Homosexual, or are they JUST BORN THAT WAY? Scheduled so far: 1) Sharon Slater of 'Family Watch International', 2) Local Libertarian Attorney, Marc Victor. I anticipate we'll have 5-6 speakers by 'showtime'.
