Our guest was my good friend & Local Liberal Radio Talk Show Host, Jeff Farias. I had billed his presentation as: “The Corporate States of America: How the Supreme Court Makes it Easier for Conservatives to Destroy America.” That was a minor mistake, since it‘s not just the GOP that’s sending our nation down the tubes. But I really believe they’re the biggest culprit in this terrible time in America.
At various times in the last few years, Jeff Farias has had a local radio talk show on Am Radio. He recently ended a gig with a local station, & now does "on-line streaming"; check him out at TheJeffFariasShow.com. I've known Jeff for years, as a very committed liberal, like myself. One of the biggest "beefs" on the part of us Lefties, is that 5 huge companies produce & control ~ 95% of the so-called "news". And folks, ~ 90% has a serious Right Wing slant to it. (See the books, "What Left Wing Media", or "Press Effects").
Conservatives point to the MSNBC liberals, Rachel Maddow, Keith Olberman, Chris Matthews, & Ed Shultz. That's right, there are a handful of principled "talking heads" who do have a liberal slant to their reporting & commentary. And there are a few publications, of minor circulation, e.g. "Mother Jones", the "Nation", the "New Republic", & 1 or 2 others, that also are truly leftist. But up against Fox, CNN, CNBC, the "Big-3" networks, all the so-called left wing papers, (NY Times, LA Times, etc.), that aren't really progressive at all, but were in fact a "cheer squad" for the GOP during all but the last 2 years of the W Fiasco, there really is almost no truly "liberal media" to speak of in America today.
The Supreme court today is terribly right wing, so that any important decision always goes the way of the conservatives, who are ruining the nation. E.g. Bush v. Gore, in which Bush won Florida, in Y2K, when "the Supremes" gave the presidential election to Bush, 5 - 4. Many books have been written about the fact that if all the real votes had been counted in Florida that year, Gore would've won Florida, not by a hundred or a thousand votes, but by tens of thousands of votes. It happens over & over. The Supreme court today is a reflection of the nation's control by powerful conservative interests, that have literally high jacked our government, so that we no longer have real democracy, but Oligarchy. And it's killing our country.
Right now a crucial case before the court is FEC v. Citizens United, which will decide if we have more or less integrity in our voting process. Don't count on it. The documentaries "Hacking Democracy", "Uncounted", & "Stealing Democracy One Vote at a Time", clearly prove beyond any doubt, that the GOP is so efficient at simply stealing elections. A big reason it happens over & over, is that too many Democrats have no guts, or worse, are often in bed with the GOP controlled "Military-Industrial-Think Tank-Prison-Media Complex". Just look at what the "Gang of Six" Senators are doing to stop Health Care Reform, when those creeps represent states with only ~ 3% of the U.S. population. We should really abolish the U.S. Senate, if we were really concerned about fairness & real representative government.
Right wingers like to point their fingers at ACORN, which got $3.5 million for a few years from the Feds. ACORN, nor anyone working directly for ACORN, was ever convicted of a serious crime of impropriety or financial malfeasance, involving ACORN funds. Many years ago, a relative of ACORN's founder admitted to embezzling funds; but it was caught by ACORN, & dealt with internally. That did happen & it's the only real "blight" on the record of an organization that works tirelessly to help poor folks who don't really have someone lobbying for them.
Since then, the fascist noise machine & echo chamber never let us forget about all the fictitious "vote fraud", supposedly committed by ACORN. However, that's a classic "red herring". The truth is that all those faked up voter registration forms were the result of unscrupulous sub contractors, not ACORN employees. ACORN employees caught the problem before even one of those forms got past the first desk review at ACORN. But all you heard from the Right Wing talking heads, was that ACORN was committing vote fraud. There's no such thing. When pressed for proof, the fascists could not produce one single example of one person ever voting illegally, because of an ACORN initiated voter registration form. The GOP screamed, "but they were registering voters as Micky Mouse, Superman, Spiderman,......"
The real truth was that ACORN didn't register any of those fakes as real voters. ACORN turned every one of those faked up forms over to the proper officials at the local or state election board. ACORN did exactly what it was supposed to do. ACORN was following the letter of the law. Not one bogus voter ever got to vote, if their fake form went thru ACORN. But the Right Wing Media drummed into the feeble brains of stupid & gullible people, over & over, that ACORN was the culprit, when in fact ACORN was the "watch-dog", doing it's job quite well.
More recently, there are the films of ACORN advisors supposedly trying to help a fake pimp qualify for a loan to run a white slave operation. What the Right Wing Media never told you, was that the ACORN advisors involved, went to their superiors, as soon as the imposters left the ACORN office, & said, "You gotta jump on this....these people are trying to get money for a prostitution ring." But most Right Wingers don't care about the truth, or they wouldn't be Fascists in the first place!
For instance, they repeatedly cry that "socialized medicine doesn't work"! Bull shit!! It works just fine in dozens, if not scores of nations all over the globe, & costs ~ 50 - 75%, per capita, as much as we spend on our health care in America! The conservatives also lie all day long about how we "can't have the government running health care! They'll just mess it all up!" Oh yeah? Well how come you bumpkins in the "Greater Confederacy" have no problem with the government running the "DEATH INDUSTRY" - Defense?! I can't stand these people. Thank god, as America becomes "browner", hopefully the GOP will be able to steal fewer elections, so that someday, we might get our country back.
When the "T-Baggers" & Palin-Beck-Limbaugh listening nut jobs, talk about "taking the country back", what they really mean is that they'd like to take it back to the 40's & 50's, when women & brown folks "knew their place" in America, & stayed there. I despise these people. It's groups like ACORN that stand up for what's right, & the disenfranchised, when the media blow hards are lying to us, repeatedly, "fearing us" into lockstep acceptance of their fascist agenda. They want a Christian Theocracy. Thank god for ACORN!!
Now 125 gutless Dems in Congress sided with the GOP, to kill funding for ACORN, because they have no guts or integrity. I'd bet my life that most of those Dems vote with the GOP, repeatedly, to award defense contracts to the "Big 3" defense contractors, Boeing, Northrup-Grumman, & Lockheed-Martin. In the last 15 years, those 3 firms have plead guilty to over 100 cases of out right fraud, amounting to tens if not hundreds of Billions of dollars of wasted money our nation won't have to spend on more important stuff, like Health Care! And what was the penalty for such corruption? Those 3 firms got "slaps on the wrist", paid a few Billion Bucks in fines, which amounted to less than 1% of the revenue paid to them by US taxpayers, in that period of their "white collar crime wave", & then last year, the "Big Three" got ~ $77 Billion in new contracts, in just one freakin' year!!
While stupid crackers & greedy fat cats bitch about ACORN getting $3.5 Million!! What in the Hell is wrong with our country. We don't even deserve good government, because we let the filthy rich & powerful, "fear us" into "being sheep", & doing whatever the giant corporations & their elected stooges tell us to do. And most people "just take it". Disgusting. The average person is a flippin' moron, & deserves misery, because they're not willing to stand up & fight for what's right. I can't wait to leave this country someday. I just don't have enough money to pull it off comfortably, at this point. And to the morons who call real patriots like me "Socialists", I have to things to say:
