   I first met Political Analyst Charles Goyette when he was on the radio here in Phoenix ~ 4 years ago. We disagree on many issues but both agree that our economy has been mismanaged terribly for decades, & that we now have “crony capitalism”, in which the risks are “socialized”, while the rewards are “privatized”. Charles presented some material from his new book, “Dollar Meltdown”, which is on the New York Times Best Seller list. He talked about how we got here, & what to expect. Folks, it’s not pleasant. America’s currency has been debased, & the “present value” of our “unfunded obligations for future Social Sec., Medicare & Medicaid payments approaches $100 Trillion. Printing more money, subsidizing more industries, & expanding the size of government will not save us. In fact, that’s how we got here. You can protect yourself with the proper financial moves, so you may want to buy a copy of Charles’s book.

   Charles is familiar to most of us from his many years on radio, where he was known as "America's Most Independent Talk Show Host". He brought a depth of economic knowledge to his shows, thanks to years of experience as a financial profession. He's long been a participant in the national economic debate. More than 25 years ago, he arranged for a then little known Texas Congressman Ron Paul, to be the keynote speaker at a series of monetary conferences he hosted.

   Charles has often been on national TV shows with hosts such as Glenn Beck & Bill O'Reilly of FOX, Bill Moyers of PBS, Lou Dobbs of CNN, & numerous appearances on MSNBC & CNBC. His new book, "THE DOLLAR MELTDOWN: Surviving the Coming Currency Crisis with Gold, Oil, & other Unconventional Investments" is on the NY Times Bestseller list. It's a guide to how we got into this financial mess, how to protect yourself & your family from the coming economic turmoil, & how to actually profit from the developing catastrophe.

   Charles spoke for about a half hour, then took questions for an hour & a half. He did a great job, as I would expect. I can't cover too much of his wisdom here, but here's a few tidbits:

   Bad monetary policy led to the rise of fanatics like Hitler & Napoleon Bonaparte. The 'governing classes' have perpetrated a myth on the masses: If we pump more money into a system that's already inflated, we can fix it! This is shear nonsense.

   Jimmy Carter's "Inflation Czar" Alfred Kahn, in 1978 was asked, "Why do we have Inflation in America today?" His response was long & rambling, almost incoherent, & then he concluded by saying that "...we don't really know."!!

   Another myth: Americans can continue to fund our massive government spending by continuing to borrow from some of the world's poorest nations. We have unfunded obligations, as mentioned above, approaching $100 Trillion!! If we don't soon address this issue, our dollar will eventually be just another "peso" or "ruble" among the basket of not preferred world currencies, & our standard of living, relative to the successful nations of the world, will fall even more rapidly than it has in the last 3 decades. This is a catastrophe waiting to happen.

   Folks, I took 4 pages of notes, & Charles gave a great presentation. If these matters concern you, please buy his book. We look forward to seeing him back at the S/E sometime next year or perhaps 2012, for an update. BRAVO Charles!!

   • 4/8- Local "Lefty" Attorney Sean Larkin: The Criminal Justice is Broken & “Sheriff Joe” Arpaio should be in Prison.

   • 4/22- Earth Day Debate, hopefully on Nuclear Power.

   • 5/6- Local Libertarian Attorney Michael Kielsky. Topic TBD'd; most likely something like "Why is America becoming a Police State", or "We Don't Need no Stinkin' Photo Radar"!!

   • TBD- Nuclear Power: I thought I had a "lefty" to debate my friend & nuclear engineer, Joe Napier, but he backed out. No biggie. I'll find another.

   • TBD- The Magic of Packy Paulsen & Tony Barnhart. I hope they can make some folks I know disappear!!

   Finally, my opponent for the Holocaust Debate (1/28), has asked that I mention his website, www.nazigassings.com, so that anyone who really wants to get a thorough idea of his side of the argument can do so. I highly recommend that anyone serious about the subject do so. Sort of like boxers watching film of an upcoming opponent's prior fights. If you think as most of my Jewish friends do, that "this has all been decided", & "why would you give credibility or even an opportunity to voice such nonsense, to such people", you're missing the point.

   Folks, the Holocaust Denial & White Supremacy movements are "on steroids", in America today. I really believe that a "lie told often enough & loud enough, eventually becomes the truth." If Al Gore had stood up to the lies of the coward W in the Y2K campaign, or if John Kerry had not waited 6 weeks, in 2004, to respond to the "Swift Boat Liars", those brainiacs would've won. But too often intelligent people think ridiculous ideas or comments are "not worth dignifying with a response." That's a big mistake. We need to stand up to all forms of evil, no matter where we find it, & no matter how inconsequential it seems at the time.

   That's what I do, & that's why I often get labeled a "curmudgeon", or "trouble-maker". And that's why I "don't get invited" to all kinds of stuff, & once in a while, Marie has to come pick me up from the Police Station or Emergency Room. Because if you want to confront or study the lion, sometimes you gotta walk into the lion's den!
